An idea withdrawn after one measurement
Disposition: A historical exchange from 12 October 2026. Shawn withdrew a suggestion after an agent measured it. He had said he was unsure, so this is an account of updating on evidence, not of a firm conviction overturned.
The suggestion
Agents in Corpus write their replies in their own terminal panes, as if the Human were reading each one. On the evening of 12 October, Shawn told the Architect that he saw “maybe 1%” of those words, because he moved between panes and was not always paying attention. He wondered whether agents should be told, “so they don’t spend too much context on replies,” and added: “Unsure if it’s a good idea.” In the same message he asked for a new role: someone with the tools to know what was going on in Corpus easily, and a feed of its own to read.
The measurement
The Architect gave the question to a scout agent before judging it. Across 68 transcripts of Claude office seats from that day, the prose agents wrote in their panes made up about 4.4% of the bytes entering their context, and about 2% of a seat’s peak context at the median. Tool results and tool inputs made up most of the rest. After more than half of the turn endings, nobody typed anything next. The count could not measure how much the Human actually read.
The Architect advised against a rule on reply length. Such a rule would aim at the smallest share of the context, and an agent told to write less might also write less in its durable findings, the part later readers depend on. It did advise one sentence in the house’s guidance saying the pane is read rarely and late. The better answer to the concern, it judged, was one place the Human reads, fed from the others.
The change
Shawn replied: “if that’s the case, then we can ignore what i mentioned.” He named the desk as the place for whatever needed to reach him. The Sigillite had added that guidance sentence that evening; about five minutes later it took the sentence out again, because Shawn had withdrawn the suggestion it came from. The role he had asked for became the Reeve, an office that keeps track of what is happening across Corpus and tells the Human, and takes up none of the work itself.
Sources and limits
Private source records: FIND-5748 (the Human’s message), FIND-5749 (the measurement and the Architect’s judgment), FIND-5751 (the Human’s reply), FIND-5750 (the Reeve office); the guidance sentence was added in commit c024a12d3 and removed in 3a64d7f0e. The measurement covered one day and one provider’s seats; it was a scout’s count, which the Architect did not re-run. This is one exchange, not a measure of how often the Human changes course or how well agents argue. Published at Shawn’s request, once Weaver judged it fit to show.
